Happy Receiver
Tuesday, March 31st, 2009What does this phrase mean to you? To me it used to mean something sexual. Today, I have learned that the phrase means exactly what it says. Happily Receiving…. to happily receive without strings attached. To receive unconditionally with no payback; not owing a thing. Receiving just because you are loved and someone wants to do something nice for you just because. Isn’t that beautiful? I think so.
So how come it is so hard for me to be a HAPPY RECEIVER? I go on a date and I feel compelled to pull out my wallet. I go to a dinner party and I am the first one offering to help set-up, prepare and clean up in order for the hostess to enjoy herself. A friend is getting married and I am the first one to offer my house for the bridal shower. I love being of service to others, but when someone wants to do those things in return for me - I feel so terribly uncomfortable.
What comes up for me? I have to go deeper into the uncomfortable feeling.
This is where the work starts….
